Questions asked in ENGINEERING MECHANICS Minor 1 2023

  1. Q1. Attempt any Two parts of the following. Q. 1 (a) is compulsory.
  2. Q1(a). Differentiate between flat belt and V-belt according to its construction and applications. Two rollers of the same diameter are supported by an inclined plane and vertical wall as shown in the following figure. The upper and lower rollers are 200N and 250N in weight. Assuming the smooth surfaces, find out the reactions at contact A, B, C and D. [3 marks]
  3. Q1(b). Explain the triangle law of forces with suitable examples. Find out the magnitude and direction of resultant force of the following force system by using the vector law of addition. Also, verify the results by using polygon law. [2 marks]
  4. Q1(c). A flat belt running on a pulley 1m in diameter at a speed of 200 rev/min. The angle of embrace of belt and pulley is 170° and the coefficient of friction between the belt and pulley is 0.25. Determine the value of torque and power transmitted by the belt. If the pull in belt is not to exceed 200 N/cm, determine the width of belt. [2 marks]
  5. Q2. Attempt any Two parts of the following. Q. 2 (a) is compulsory.
  6. Q2(a). Draw the SFD and BMD for the following beam. Also, find the location and magnitude of the maximum bending moment. [3 marks]
